IMO’s Facilitation Committee has adopted amendments to the Facilitation (FAL) Convention, making the single window for data exchange mandatory in ports worldwide. This marks a significant step towards accelerating digitalization in maritime.
As of January 1, 2024, under the FAL Convention, all ports are required to implement a Maritime Single Window (MSW) system. This system provides a unified digital platform that enables electronic submission of all required documents between ships and shore authorities. By eliminating paper-based transactions, the MSW system enhances operational efficiency and accelerates international trade.
Purpose of the FAL Convention:
The Facilitation (FAL) Convention of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) aims to simplify the formalities, documentary requirements, and procedures for ships’ arrival, stay, and departure. This contributes to the improvement of international trade and maritime security.
